Sea Harvest vacancies – Mate
Sea Harvest is seeking a qualified Mate to join our fleet operating out of Saldanha Bay on the West Coast. This role is responsible for navigational watch, fishing operations, safety, quality control, and crew management aboard a fishing trawler.
Responsibilities:

Vessel and Crew Safety:
- Ensure compliance with safe manning requirements.
- Adhere to all SAMSA, Class regulations, and Maritime OSH standards.

Navigational Watch:
- Follow company watchkeeping procedures.
- Maintain and complete logbooks accurately.

Legislative Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to all relevant maritime regulations and legislation.

Housekeeping, Hygiene, and Quality:
- Maintain the vessel in a clean and organized state.
- Enforce strict hygiene standards.
- Ensure all caught products meet defined quality standards.

Fishing Gear Operations and Targets:
- Oversee the care and maintenance of fishing gear and related equipment.
- Exercise caution when operating in hazardous fishing areas.
- Ensure fishing targets are achieved as per company objectives.

Crew Management and HR Functions:
- Maintain discipline and promote a productive work environment.
- Foster teamwork and ensure smooth operations among the crew.

Training and Mentorship:
- Support skill transfer by training and mentoring officers and crew members.
Requirements and Competencies:
- Valid certificate of competency (CoC).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to train, mentor, and lead effectively.
- Problem-solving skills with a proactive approach.
