Sasol careers – Master Artisan Electro Mechanic

Purpose of Job:
Lead and oversee the provision of effective electro-mechanical equipment maintenance to support production. Ensure adherence to procedures and codes, utilize available resources to enhance stability, and maintain the sustainability of the plant, mine, or equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Management:
    Plan, control, and manage maintenance and operations activities to ensure effective execution. Maximize task quality, efficiency, and equipment use. Manage and control costs where budget responsibility is assigned.
  • Emergency Response:
    Evaluate abnormalities during emergencies and take corrective action to prevent downtime, equipment damage, or safety incidents.
  • Procedure Compliance:
    Ensure adherence to operational and maintenance procedures for both personnel and equipment. Schedule maintenance optimally to maximize production output.
  • Team Management:
    Address performance issues, misconduct, disciplinary actions, and grievances. Coach and train staff to achieve competence and career progression. Motivate the team, ensure compliance with company values, and promote team wellness.
  • Communication and Coordination:
    Facilitate effective communication with management and other stakeholder teams. Participate in staff selection and recruitment panels. Ensure smooth work transition between shifts.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    Ensure compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) and relevant standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001). Implement safety programs and conduct risk assessments, including potential deviation analysis and root cause analysis.
  • Operational Efficiency:
    Manage the work permit system, conduct Task Risk Assessments, and ensure adherence to Sasol procedures, policies, and legislation. Contribute to improving Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and apply new methods to enhance results.
  • Change Management:
    Handle human resistance to change, support organizational change initiatives, and provide information for technical and support projects. Ensure staff are available for necessary training and development.

Formal Education/Requirements:

  • Grade 12/N3 (or equivalent) with Maths, Science, and English/Business English
  • NQF 4 Trade Test (Valid EM Trade Test Certificate – Qualified Electro Mechanic/Millwright)
  • Flameproofing and gas testing certification (where applicable)
  • Knowledge of work management processes (preferred)
  • Understanding of plant/mine maintenance documentation systems
  • Familiarity with failure modes of discipline-specific equipment
  • Computer literacy (preferred)
  • Coal Mining Underground experience (fiery mine experience) is an added advantage

Experience:

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in electro-mechanical maintenance

Professional Membership/Certifications:

  • Blasting Certificate (Underground)
  • Gas Testing Certificate
  • Flameproof Certificate

Licenses:

  • Valid licenses relevant to the role
