Sasol careers – Manager Rights & Properties Mining

Purpose of the Role

The Manager Rights & Properties Mining will coordinate Sasol’s mineral rights portfolio to ensure access to prospecting and mining rights while maintaining compliance with applicable laws. This role includes negotiating, acquiring, managing, and safeguarding rights to enable Sasol Mining to operate effectively. Additionally, the position involves engaging strategically with key stakeholders, including the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) and the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic advice on mining legislation and ensure compliance with legislative changes.
  • Prepare and manage applications for prospecting rights, mining rights, permits, and renewals to secure Sasol’s license to operate.
  • Conduct due diligence investigations and negotiate third-party agreements for acquiring mineral rights.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships, including engagements with DMPR, DWS, local authorities, landowners, and communities.
  • Ensure compliance with mining legislation, including the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA), the Mining Charter, and related laws.
  • Coordinate compliance audits and facilitate timely approvals of applications.
  • Ensure adherence to Social and Labour Plan (SLP) targets and regulatory submissions.
  • Maintain and update Geographic Information System (GIS) and Landfolio rights management systems.
  • Provide expert advice on MPRDA-related matters for mine development and expansion projects.
  • Manage external service providers, including environmental practitioners and legal advisors.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to align on land-related matters and secure project approvals.

Qualifications and Experience

Education:

  • B.Tech or Honours degree in Legal, Mineral Law Administration, Commercial, Marketing, Social Sciences, or Administration.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Prospecting and Mining Law and admission as an attorney or advocate is advantageous.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in managing mineral rights and compliance.

Certification and Professional Membership:

  • Membership with a recognized Law Society or Bar Association (for admitted attorneys or advocates).
