Pick n Pay Careers  – Manager Deli

About the Role:

Pick n Pay is seeking a dedicated and experienced Manager Deli to oversee and optimize deli operations. The Manager Deli will be responsible for maximizing turnover, minimizing shortages, and ensuring compliance with standards, processes, and policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Merchandising Management:
    • Conduct regular quality checks on merchandise and ensure adherence to plano guides and SOPs.
    • Ensure the deli department is fully prepared for trade by store opening time.
    • Identify fast-selling items and their impact on margins and sales opportunities.
    • Maintain product quality and availability, ensuring compliance with hygiene and safety standards.
    • Monitor promotional activities and ensure adherence to promotional calendars.
    • Maintain cleanliness and organization of backup areas and manage stock rotation effectively.
  2. Food Safety & Hygiene:
    • Uphold high hygiene and housekeeping standards.
    • Ensure stock rotation and adherence to food safety, health, and safety standards.
    • Manage non-conformances with corrective actions and implement effective cleaning schedules.
  3. Customer Services Management:
    • Respond promptly to customer requests and queries, providing solutions for out-of-stock items.
    • Ensure department standards are upheld and equipment is in working order.
  4. Staff Management:
    • Communicate critical information and set clear targets and priorities for staff.
    • Address procedural and policy non-compliance issues.
    • Attend regional meetings, communicate key information to staff, and handle scheduling via Kronos.
  5. Administration:
    • Ensure proper maintenance and functionality of equipment.
    • Monitor waste and turnover, identifying opportunities for improvement.
    • Ensure all Shelf Edge Labels (SEL) are current and legible.
  6. Systems Management:
    • Perform gap scanning and record out-of-stocks and over-stocks.
    • Generate and review reports from SAP, addressing stock concerns and processing transactions as per SOP.
    • Monitor electronic communications and manage waste processes.

Requirements:

  • Matric Grade 12.
  • Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience in food retail management.
  • Proven experience and/or training in food retail and resource management.
  • Strong competencies in achieving results through others, planning and organization, adherence to standards, customer orientation, effective communication, and business acumen.
