Sasol careers – Legal Advisor Secunda Ops & Mining

The Legal Advisor for Secunda Operations & Mining will manage legal risk within the assigned functional area by providing general legal services and advice, coordinating the resolution of legal matters and litigation, and ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

Key Accountabilities
Provide ongoing legal advice and support to the Secunda Operations & Mining functional area, including its management and leadership teams, on all legal aspects that impact the area.
Implement the Legal Services functional strategy, policies, and procedures in alignment with the Group Legal strategy and mandate.
Formulate legal opinions, draft contracts, assist with contract negotiations, and provide quality control over key contracts within the functional area.
Manage legal dispute resolution processes, preparing for litigation, obtaining approval from relevant forums, liaising with external legal counsel, and managing legal spend within planned parameters.
Provide legal assurance by reviewing and vetting corporate documents such as annual reports and disclosure documents.
Facilitate the implementation of legal changes to ensure compliance and manage adherence to the Legal SOX process.
Implement the Group’s integrated legal risk management program to identify and mitigate legal risks.
Partner with external legal counsel to draft contracts, provide legal opinions, and resolve litigation and legal disputes, and manage other specialist advisory requirements.
Contribute to monthly legal update documents and distribute them as required.
Collaborate with senior management to evaluate the legal impact of major decisions where applicable law or regulations are unclear, controversial, or conflicting.
Work with HR to ensure adherence to employment regulations and facilitate the resolution of labour disputes.
Manage the legal budget, ensuring legal activities are completed within budgetary constraints, implementing the chargeback model, and ensuring effective cost management.
Stay informed about legal developments and assess their associated risks for the assigned functional area, advising management on changes to laws and regulations.
Perform standby duties on a rotational basis and assist with incident investigations, engaging with relevant authorities such as DEL, SAPS, and DMRP.
Provide legal support to relevant trusts, including the Siyakha Trust, Osizweni Educational Trust, and Sasol Rehabilitation Trust.
Ensure decisions are made in accordance with the relevant DoA and advise on applicable requirements.
Attend business meetings and provide secretarial support as required.

Formal Education
University Bachelor’s Degree (LLB or BProc)

Certification
Admitted attorney/advocate

Working Experience
6+ relevant years of experience
