Fidelity Vacancies – Leading/Senior Firefighter-Paarl

Positions are available for Leading/Senior Firefighters within the Fidelity Group to respond to and manage fire-related incidents in the Paarl region.

The main responsibilities of the role include firefighting, emergency rescue services, providing basic medical care, fire prevention activities, training responsibilities, and the operation and maintenance of firefighting equipment and apparatus. These duties are crucial to protect the lives and property of Fidelity Group’s clients.

Key Responsibilities:

The Leading/Senior Firefighter will carry out firefighting activities and emergency operations under the guidance, mentorship, and supervision of senior officers. Key responsibilities include:

  • Responding to fire incidents, rescues, and emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Attending incidents involving hazardous substances.
  • Extricating or releasing casualties and performing emergency operations as directed by senior officers.
  • Administering resuscitation and treating injured individuals during emergency operations.
  • Operating various firefighting equipment to manage and extinguish fires.
  • Undertaking fire protection duties in high-risk situations and ensuring the availability of appropriate equipment.
  • Preparing for emergency incidents and protection duties under the guidance of officers in charge.
  • Participating in training drills, simulation exercises, and physical fitness programs.
  • Training employees on the theory and practice necessary to fight fires effectively.
  • Advising on preventative and corrective measures.
  • Implementing procedures and strategies using the proper equipment to promote local and national security.
  • Performing basic maintenance on firefighting equipment to ensure operational readiness.
  • Checking, cleaning, and testing vehicles and firefighting equipment.
  • Completing computerized logs to record daily activities.
  • Conducting health and safety inspections to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Completing required documentation and attending Health and Safety Committee meetings.
  • Driving and operating specialized firefighting vehicles to emergency scenes.
  • Operating machinery to access buildings and extricate victims during emergencies.
  • Ensuring the effective operation of fire apparatus and emergency equipment to save lives and property.
  • Assisting with Fire and Safety training, fire safety inspections, and life safety education programs.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act by conducting safety inspections and ensuring the proper use of protective clothing.
  • Maintaining compliance with equipment maintenance schedules and performing repairs as needed.
  • Completing shift-related administrative tasks to ensure efficiency.
  • Supervising personnel and performing related management functions.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of Grade 12 qualification.
  • IFSAC Accreditation.
  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter 2 certification.
  • Firefighter II Certification.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of firefighting training and related experience.
  • Valid Code C1 driver’s license with a PrDP.
  • Advanced driving experience is advantageous.
  • Medically and physically fit.
  • Strong understanding and practical experience in fire prevention.
  • Knowledge of fire-fighting systems and the chemistry of fire.
  • A clear criminal record.
  • Ability to respond promptly to emergency situations.
  • Strong administrative, communication, and customer liaison skills.
  • Hazmat experience and knowledge is essential.
  • EMT certification.
  • First Aid (Levels 1-3) certification.

Core Competencies:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Hazmat guidelines.
  • Understanding of the security industry and how to adhere to the code of conduct within the Group and Regulatory Authority.
  • Strong understanding of the fundamental elements of firefighter instructor applications in operational roles.
