Job Description:
Fidelity is currently seeking experienced Leading Firefighters to join our team in regional areas. The successful candidate will be responsible for responding to fire-related incidents, performing firefighting operations, providing emergency rescue services, and ensuring the safety of people and property. This role involves both active emergency response duties and preventative fire safety measures to protect our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to fire incidents, rescues, and humanitarian emergencies, under the guidance of senior officers.
- Handle incidents involving hazardous materials and provide emergency medical care to injured persons.
- Operate firefighting equipment to control, manage, and extinguish fires.
- Undertake fire protection duties in high-risk environments to safeguard lives and property.
- Participate in training drills, fitness exercises, and simulation training for firefighting techniques.
- Train colleagues on the theory and practical aspects of firefighting.
- Advise on preventative measures and corrective actions to enhance fire safety.
- Perform basic maintenance and testing on firefighting equipment and vehicles to ensure operational readiness.
- Maintain accurate logs of incidents and perform administrative tasks as required by departmental policies.
- Drive and operate heavy firefighting vehicles to emergency sites.
- Assist in fire safety inspections and life safety education programs.
- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, including safety inspections and the use of protective clothing by team members.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of departmental records and registers.
Qualifications, Experience, and Competencies:
- Minimum Grade 12 qualification
- IFSAC Accredited NFPA 1001 Firefighter II certification
- At least 2-3 years of firefighting experience
- Valid code C1/EC driver’s license with PrDP (advanced driving experience is advantageous)
- Physically and medically fit
- Strong understanding of fire prevention techniques and firefighting systems
- Knowledge of fire chemistry and firefighting equipment
- Clear criminal record
- Ability to respond quickly and efficiently to emergency situations
- Strong administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Hazmat experience and knowledge is essential
- EMT certification and First Aid (Levels 1-3) or ILS is advantageous
Core Competencies:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- In-depth knowledge of Hazmat guidelines
- Understanding of the security industry and its regulatory codes of conduct
- Strong grasp of firefighting instructor applications and operational procedures
- Ability to lead and manage teams in high-pressure environments
