Sasol careers – Lampsman

Purpose of the Role

The Lampsman is responsible for operating mining-related machinery and equipment within designed parameters and providing first-line maintenance support to ensure operational efficiency and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply and maintain safety standards in the working environment.
  • Participate in root cause analyses (RCA) and provide feedback to RCA teams.
  • Perform tasks as per the daily work plan and attend morning meetings to review assignments.
  • Provide regular updates to supervisors on work progress.
  • Ensure adherence to safety procedures and maintain a clean, safe working area.
  • Identify equipment faults using appropriate methods to maximize availability.
  • Perform plant inspections and repairs to maintain equipment reliability.
  • Attend and complete training programs to improve skills and competencies.
  • Develop and track a Personal Development Plan (PDP) in collaboration with the group leader.
  • Conduct MyIMS inspections to support plant sustainability and reliability.
  • Ensure accurate feedback is provided for maintenance history to optimize equipment renewals and upgrades.
  • Participate in toolbox talks and safety initiatives to promote plant safety.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities in work processes.

Qualifications and Certifications

  • Education:
    • Grade 12/N3 with English or Business English.
    • Lampsman’s Certificate of Competency (Mandatory).
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a mining or similar environment.
