Fidelity Group is looking for Junior Firefighters to respond to and manage fire-related incidents. This position involves firefighting, emergency rescue services, basic medical care, fire prevention activities, and the maintenance and operation of firefighting equipment and apparatus to protect the lives and property of clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Junior Firefighters will perform firefighting duties and emergency operations under the mentorship and supervision of senior staff, including:
- Responding to fires, rescues, and both emergency and non-emergency humanitarian incidents.
- Handling hazardous material incidents and providing support during rescues.
- Carrying out casualty extrication and emergency operations as directed.
- Resuscitating and treating injured individuals according to established procedures.
- Operating firefighting equipment to manage and extinguish fires.
- Carrying out fire protection duties in situations that may endanger lives or property, using the equipment provided.
- Preparing for emergency incidents and protection duties under the guidance of senior officers.
- Participating in training drills, simulation exercises, and physical fitness training.
- Training other staff on firefighting theory and practice.
- Advising on fire prevention strategies and corrective actions.
- Implementing procedures and using appropriate equipment to protect people, data, and property.
- Performing routine maintenance on firefighting equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Checking, cleaning, and maintaining vehicles and firefighting apparatus.
- Maintaining computerized logs of incidents for proper documentation.
- Conducting health and safety inspections to ensure a safe work environment.
- Completing necessary documentation and participating in Health and Safety Committee meetings.
- Operating heavy specialized vehicles and machinery during emergency incidents.
- Ensuring fire apparatus and equipment are safely used to save lives and property.
- Assisting with fire safety training, inspections, and life safety education.
- Complying with Occupational Health and Safety regulations by conducting safety inspections, ensuring proper protective clothing use, and adhering to policies for safety and loss prevention.
- Following equipment maintenance schedules and conducting repairs when necessary to ensure operational readiness.
- Completing all shift-related administrative duties to maintain prescribed records under the Fire Chief’s direction.
- Taking on supervisory and line functional duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Grade 12 as a minimum school qualification.
- IFSAC Accredited.
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter 2 certification.
- Firefighter II Certification.
- 2-3 years of firefighting training and relevant experience is essential.
- Valid code C1 driver’s license with PrDP.
- Advanced driving experience is advantageous.
- Medically and physically fit.
- Understanding and practice of fire prevention procedures.
- Knowledge of fire-fighting systems and the chemistry of fire.
- Clear criminal record.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations within efficient time frames.
- Strong administrative, interpersonal communication, and customer liaison skills.
- Essential Hazmat experience and knowledge.
- EMT certification and First Aid Levels 1 to 3.
Core Competencies:
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Sound understanding of Hazmat guidelines.
- Familiarity with the security industry and its code of conduct.
- Understanding of fundamental firefighter instructor applications in an operational setting.
