Fidelity Vacancies – Junior Firefighter-Western Cape

Fidelity Group is seeking a Junior Firefighter to join its team in the Western Cape. This role requires individuals who are ready to respond to fire-related incidents and ensure the safety and protection of clients’ lives and property.

The primary responsibilities include firefighting, emergency rescue services, basic medical care, fire prevention, training activities, and the operation and maintenance of firefighting equipment. As a Junior Firefighter, you will perform these tasks under the guidance and supervision of senior officers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to fire incidents, rescues, and related emergency/non-emergency situations.
  • Handle incidents involving hazardous substances.
  • Assist in extricating and releasing casualties and perform emergency operations.
  • Provide medical care and resuscitation to injured persons.
  • Operate equipment to control, manage, and extinguish fires.
  • Undertake fire protection duties in situations that could threaten lives or property.
  • Prepare for emergency incidents under supervision and mentorship.
  • Participate in training drills, simulation exercises, and physical fitness training.
  • Assist in training employees on fire safety techniques and firefighting practices.
  • Advise on preventative and corrective actions to ensure safety.
  • Perform basic maintenance on firefighting equipment to ensure operational readiness.
  • Check, clean, test, and maintain firefighting vehicles and apparatus.
  • Maintain computerized records of daily occurrences.
  • Conduct health and safety inspections to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Complete administrative tasks as directed by the Fire Chief.
  • Drive and operate heavy and specialized firefighting vehicles during emergency incidents.
  • Assist in fire safety training and educational drills.
  • Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act by performing necessary safety inspections and ensuring adherence to safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain fire equipment according to prescribed maintenance schedules.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum Grade 12 qualification.
  • IFSAC accredited.
  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter II certification.
  • Firefighting training with at least 2 to 3 years of related experience.
  • Valid Code C1 driver’s license with PrDP.
  • Advanced driving experience is advantageous.
  • Physically and medically fit.
  • Good understanding and application of fire prevention procedures.
  • Knowledge of firefighting systems and fire chemistry.
  • Clear criminal record.
  • Ability to react efficiently in emergency situations.
  • Hazmat experience and knowledge.
  • EMT certification.
  • First Aid levels 1 to 3.

Core Competencies

  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Understanding of Hazmat guidelines.
  • Knowledge of security industry standards and code of conduct.
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of firefighter instructor applications.
