Fidelity Vacancies – Junior Firefighter-Somerset West

Fidelity Group is seeking a Junior Firefighter for positions within Somerset West to join our dedicated team. As a Junior Firefighter, you will be responsible for responding to fire incidents, providing firefighting services, emergency rescues, offering basic medical care, and engaging in fire prevention and safety training. You will also operate and maintain firefighting equipment to ensure the safety and protection of lives and property.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to fires, rescues, and other emergency incidents.
  • Handle hazardous substance incidents and assist with extricating casualties.
  • Provide emergency medical care to injured individuals.
  • Operate firefighting equipment to manage and extinguish fires.
  • Participate in fire protection duties in potentially hazardous situations.
  • Prepare for emergency incidents under the guidance of senior staff and officers.
  • Engage in training drills, fitness exercises, and simulation activities.
  • Assist in training employees on firefighting theory and practical techniques.
  • Advise on fire prevention methods and corrective actions.
  • Maintain and ensure operational readiness of firefighting equipment.
  • Conduct health and safety inspections to uphold a safe work environment.
  • Drive and operate firefighting vehicles and machinery during emergencies.
  • Complete computerized logs to record daily occurrences and incidents.
  • Participate in fire safety training and safety inspections.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of Grade 12.
  • IFSAC Accredited.
  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter II Certification.
  • A minimum of 2–3 years of related firefighting experience.
  • Valid Code C1 driver’s license with PrDP.
  • Advanced driving experience is an advantage.
  • Physically and medically fit.
  • Strong understanding of fire prevention procedures and firefighting systems.
  • Clear criminal record.
  • Knowledge and experience in Hazmat procedures.
  • EMT certification and First Aid levels 1 to 3.

Core Competencies

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • In-depth understanding of Hazmat guidelines.
  • Knowledge of the security industry and the required conduct for fire safety personnel.
  • Ability to react swiftly in emergency situations while maintaining professionalism.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer liaison skills.
