Fidelity Vacancies – Junior Firefighter-Paarl

Positions are available within the Fidelity Group for Junior Firefighters to respond to and manage all fire-related incidents in Paarl. The role involves firefighting, emergency rescue services, basic medical care, fire prevention, training activities, and the operation and maintenance of firefighting equipment to ensure the safety of Fidelity Group clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to fire incidents, rescues, and both emergency and non-emergency humanitarian situations.
  • Address incidents involving hazardous substances and perform emergency operations as directed by senior officers.
  • Extricate and rescue casualties, following operational procedures as outlined by authority levels.
  • Provide resuscitation and medical treatment to injured individuals during emergency operations.
  • Operate a variety of firefighting equipment to control, manage, and extinguish fires.
  • Perform fire protection duties in high-risk situations, ensuring the availability of the appropriate equipment.
  • Prepare for emergency incidents and protection duties under the guidance of senior officers.
  • Participate in training drills, simulation exercises, and physical fitness training as directed.
  • Assist in training employees on fire prevention and firefighting techniques.
  • Advise on preventative and corrective actions to mitigate fire risks.
  • Implement necessary procedures and utilize proper equipment to protect data, people, and property.
  • Conduct basic maintenance on firefighting equipment and vehicles to ensure readiness.
  • Keep accurate computerized records of daily incidents and occurrences.
  • Perform health and safety inspections to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Complete necessary documentation and participate in departmental meetings.
  • Drive and operate specialized firefighting vehicles and machinery at emergency incidents.
  • Ensure the effective operation of fire apparatus and emergency equipment.
  • Assist with fire safety training, fire safety inspections, and life safety education.
  • Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act by conducting safety inspections and ensuring the use of prescribed protective clothing.
  • Follow equipment maintenance schedules, conducting repairs as necessary to ensure operational readiness.
  • Complete shift-related administrative duties, ensuring the maintenance of proper records and registers under the Fire Chief’s supervision.
  • Perform supervisory and personnel-related functions as required.

Qualifications, Experience, and Other Competencies:

  • Grade 12 as a minimum educational qualification.
  • IFSAC Accredited.
  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter II certification.
  • At least 2–3 years of firefighting training and related experience.
  • Valid Code C1 driver’s license with PrDP (Advanced driving experience is advantageous).
  • Medically and physically fit.
  • Strong understanding of fire prevention procedures.
  • Knowledge of firefighting systems, including fire classes and fire chemistry.
  • Clear criminal record.
  • Ability to react swiftly to emergency situations.
  • Strong administration, communication, and customer liaison skills.
  • Hazmat experience and knowledge.
  • EMT certification and First Aid levels 1 to 3.

Core Competencies:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • In-depth understanding of Hazmat guidelines.
  • Familiarity with the security industry and adherence to the Group’s code of conduct.
  • Knowledge of firefighter instructor applications within an operational role.
