You’ll play a vital role in the design, implementation, and management of security solutions, ensuring compliance while staying ahead of evolving cyber threats.

Key Responsibilities

1. Security Design & Implementation:

  • Collaborate with architects, system engineers, and IT teams to establish and guide security standards across the IT landscape.
  • Design and configure security hardware and software solutions.
  • Conduct internal security assessments, ethical hacking, and vulnerability management to identify risks and recommend improvements.

2. Threat Detection & Response:

  • Monitor network activity to detect and respond to intrusions or unauthorized access attempts.
  • Utilize advanced toolsets to protect corporate networks, endpoints, and cloud systems.
  • Provide reports, action plans, and update risk registers to ensure a proactive security posture.

3. Leadership & Training:

  • Train employees on security best practices and mentor junior team members.
  • Draft security policies, procedures, and guidelines, ensuring alignment with industry standards and enterprise goals.

4. Continuous Improvement & Compliance:

  • Conduct research, benchmarking, and trend analysis to maintain up-to-date technical knowledge.
  • Ensure compliance with governance frameworks (POPI, PCI, Data Protection).
  • Participate in change advisory processes and collaborate on enhancing the security roadmap.

5. Automation & Innovation:

  • Develop automation solutions for repetitive tasks to improve efficiency.
  • Provide innovative solutions to strengthen IT security architecture.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of experience in IT Security roles.
  • 5+ years in back-end infrastructure support, including deployment of enterprise solutions.
  • Hands-on experience in LAN/WAN management, firewalls, routers, switches, and advanced networking concepts.
  • Familiarity with SOC operations, penetration testing, and cloud security controls.
  • Scripting knowledge and familiarity with frameworks like NIST or SANS are advantageous.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Expertise in Windows, Linux, and Apple operating systems.
  • Proficiency in network security, identity and access management, and endpoint protection.
  • Experience in vulnerability management, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and data loss prevention strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of governance and compliance frameworks.

Education & Certifications:

  • Relevant IT degree or equivalent.
  • Certifications in one or more of the following:
    • CompTIA Security+
    • CISSP
    • GIAC
    • Microsoft Azure Administrator
    • AWS Engineer
    • Cisco or Meraki Engineer
    • GSuite Engineer
