Job Description
Anova is seeking a passionate Human Rights Ambassador to improve legal literacy and health outcomes for adolescents and young women. The role focuses on educating young women on their rights, promoting access to social and healthcare services, supporting gender-based violence (GBV) response, and facilitating HIV prevention and treatment uptake. The Human Rights Ambassador will engage communities, coordinate advocacy campaigns, and implement targeted interventions at individual, facility, and community levels to enhance health service access and retention.
Key Responsibilities
Health Promotion
- Educate young women on their rights to confidentiality, informed consent, and protection against discrimination, violence, and sexual exploitation.
- Conduct age-appropriate, adolescent-centred health talks in facilities and communities using existing IEC materials.
- Promote B-wise usage, PrEP, HTS, sexual and reproductive health, and other adolescent health services.
- Demonstrate practical healthcare practices, including condom use and hand hygiene.
- Conduct outreach to create demand for contraceptives, HIV testing, and GBV services.
Linkage to Care
- Act as a contact person and navigator for adolescents accessing legal and healthcare services.
- Record human rights violations and refer clients to justice mechanisms and GBV support services.
- Promote referrals to social grant support, medico-legal care, and other relevant services.
- Support adolescents in attending appointments and improve retention in care.
- Recruit adolescents into Youth Care Clubs (YCCs) and facilitate support groups.
Community and Facility Engagement
- Serve as a youth representative in health facility committees and forums, advocating for adolescent-friendly services.
- Support adolescent disclosure, adherence, and linkage to adult services for HIV-positive youth.
- Promote adolescent and youth-friendly service provision in facilities.
- Strengthen partnerships with local clinics, schools, community-based organisations (CBOs), and civil society.
- Represent Anova at youth gatherings and advocacy platforms.
Human Rights Advocacy
- Support and coordinate human rights advocacy campaigns alongside civil society.
- Identify community spaces, organisations, and congregating sites for adolescents to engage in human rights and health promotion activities.
- Develop adolescent-focused forums to address social and health concerns and promote empowerment.
Qualifications and Experience
- Completed Grade 12.
- Aged between 19 and 35 years.
- Currently unemployed and not engaged in formal education.
- Experience in public speaking, leadership, or working with adolescents in community, school, or facility settings is an advantage.
- Experience as a LoveLife GroundBreaker is highly desirable.
