About the Role
Dischem Vacancies is looking for a Graphic Designer Graduate to join the team at the Delmas store. This opportunity is ideal for individuals eager to start their career in graphic design or build experience in design fundamentals. The role involves learning how to create and develop engaging graphics for multiple media types, including illustrations, logos, layouts, and photos, while following briefs and project requirements.

Minimum Requirements

Essential

• Grade 12 / Matric with a strong interest in studying Graphic Design
• Interest or limited experience in graphic design, with a portfolio of creative work

Advantageous

• Willingness to learn and develop skills
• Basic experience using design software

Key Responsibilities

Design & Layout

• Learn consistent standards and approaches across all design projects
• Plan, design, and develop creative concepts
• Demonstrate illustrative skills through sketches and layouts for print
• Contribute to designing, illustrating, and photographing elements within the studio
• Ensure all work aligns with assigned tasks and deadlines
• Creatively produce new ideas and concepts for evaluation
• Prepare all items required for the design team
• Assist with production and finishing tasks in the studio when needed

Innovation & Research

• Gather and refine project specifications and requirements
• Stay updated with trends and new technology in graphic design
• Conceptualise design briefs creatively within cost and time constraints

Stakeholder Liaison

• Collaborate with printers, copywriters, photographers, illustrators, stylists, designers, account managers, web developers, and marketing specialists to deliver high-quality outputs
• Provide pre-production elements to team members for project finalisation
• Consider feedback and recommendations from team members to improve design outcomes
• Give relevant and accurate feedback in a logical and timely manner

General

• Adhere to Dischem Policies, Procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures
• Follow Health and Safety regulations
• Comply with CJM Agency uniform and personal appearance standards

Competencies

Essential

• Strong design acumen and understanding of digital and wide-format print processes
• Ability to generate innovative ideas and solutions for workplace challenges
• Effective communication of ideas to team members
• Understanding of customer service and quality standards to enhance satisfaction
• Awareness of the quality review process and ability to follow proper procedures
• Take personal responsibility for timely and high-quality work with minimal oversight
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Adobe Suite
