Main Purpose of the Role
The General Manager is responsible for overseeing all branches, sites, suppliers, and clients within the region, ensuring the strategic objectives of the organization are effectively executed. This role focuses on driving financial performance, operational excellence, and client satisfaction. The General Manager ensures the delivery of the Service Catalogue, manages revenue and gross profit, supports client retention, drives new business growth, and ensures compliance and efficiency across the region.

Job Related Requirements

  • B.Com Degree in Transport and Logistics is advantageous
  • Senior Operations Management experience required
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience in the logistics industry
  • Strong operations, HR, and industrial relations skills
  • Advanced MS Excel skills including pivot tables, charts, and formulas
  • Proven experience managing P&L, forecasting, revenue, and budgets
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the LRA and BCEA
  • Ability to liaise effectively with clients and colleagues at all organizational levels
  • Strong administrative, planning, and time management skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing environments and technologies
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Independent working ability with minimal supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexibility to work beyond standard hours and travel as required
  • Own reliable vehicle and valid, unendorsed Code 8 driver’s license

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the region to achieve organizational objectives through clear communication, measurement, and staff motivation
  • Interface with shared functions to ensure collaboration and alignment
  • Ensure delivery of the Service Catalogue to clients with efficiency and consistency
  • Manage costs and productivity per branch and site, driving operational effectiveness
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, global and local KPIs
  • Deliver on P&L and budget commitments for all branches and the region
  • Identify opportunities and risks affecting business performance and shareholder commitments
  • Manage staff performance and growth to sustain a high-performing business environment
  • Ensure adherence to deadlines, schedules, and operational processes
  • Manage resources effectively and oversee risk management practices
  • Perform administrative duties relevant to the role
  • Engage with clients at all levels, in person and via telephone
  • Maintain and continuously improve systems, processes, and controls
  • Analyse customer complaints, delivery failures, and damages to determine root causes and corrective actions
  • Monitor daily operational performance to achieve KPIs consistently
  • Ensure all vehicles (owned, leased, hired, or supplied) are roadworthy and compliant with legislation
  • Drive company initiatives within the region, ensuring branch and site compliance
  • Oversee branch fleet management, maintenance, condition, and fuel efficiency
  • Implement, support, monitor, and sustain QSHE management systems and ensure legal and quality compliance
  • Supervise operational activities during peak periods at branches and sites
  • Ensure branches and sites utilize financial management tools effectively
  • Review and validate regional forecasts per branch or site for accuracy and justification
  • Actively manage P&L costs, verifying explanations for variances from branches and sites
  • Accurately budget for the following financial year based on local knowledge and organizational guidelines
