- 10+ years of Automotive production logistics experience

- Strong communication and conflict management skills to engage with all levels, age groups, and cultures
- Experience managing teams in a unionized environment
- Commercial and financial acumen including budget adherence, contract management, and SLA oversight

- Business development experience: identify and implement extension or new business opportunities
- Multi-functional capability: manage complex operations across multiple service segments and align service delivery with client requirements

Main Purpose of the Role
The General Manager is accountable for the overall performance of the Ford Silverton account under DSV Contract Logistics in South Africa, including inbound airfreight operations. The role ensures alignment of company strategy across all operations, delivering world-class service to the client, maintaining contract compliance, achieving operational, commercial, and financial performance targets, and driving people development, continual improvement, and innovation initiatives.
Duties & Responsibilities
Client Strategy
- Develop strategic operating plans aligned with long-term objectives of the client and DSV
- Manage operational and commercial risks related to services provided
- Ensure adequate operational planning and financial control systems
Client Operations
- Full accountability for all site operations in Gauteng
- Lead and implement operational initiatives, including new scope opportunities
- Retain and grow business with the client
- Ensure compliance with DSV standards, SHERQ, and Quality Management Systems
- Unlock operational synergies to improve solution competitiveness
Client Relationships
- Represent DSV in client interactions and issue resolution
- Ensure client needs are consistently met within SLA scope
- Conduct structured management reviews to assess performance and identify growth opportunities
Commercial / Financial
- Full accountability for Contract Logistics P&L and profitability targets
- Apply contract and SLA knowledge to ensure account stability
- Manage billing, debt collection, and commercial risk
- Identify and support initiatives to improve account profitability
Operational Performance
- Lead operations teams to consistently achieve performance metrics
- Drive continuous improvement and lean initiatives
- Manage stakeholder relationships internally and externally
- Proactively address client dissatisfaction, complaints, damages, and corrective actions
People Management
- Build and maintain an effective management team
- Ensure adequate resourcing across departments
- Manage team performance consistently and coach for client objective achievement
- Develop IDPs and succession plans for critical roles
- Implement training to close skills gaps in operations
Client Expectations
- Maintain open and constructive communication channels
- Ensure delivery against SLA commitments
