General Assistant – Cashbuild Vacancies

Job Description
The General Assistant is responsible for delivering comprehensive in-store customer service while supporting effective merchandising, accurate shelf price labelling, and maintaining high housekeeping standards within the allocated area of responsibility.

Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 10 or NQF Level 3 with one year relevant work experience, or
  • Grade 12 with no prior work experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant local language
  • Valid South African ID or work permit
  • Ability to perform basic calculations accurately
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure

Key Performance Areas

Customer Service

  • Assist and advise customers on appropriate products and general queries
  • Support the resolution of customer complaints in a professional and courteous manner

Merchandising Standards

  • Merchandise bulk stock areas safely in accordance with the store layout plan
  • Ensure assigned areas are fully merchandised according to store layouts and planograms

Housekeeping

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and obstruction-free work area at all times
  • Ensure stock is merchandised immediately after receipt
  • Allow customers to move through aisles safely and comfortably
  • Ensure accurate shelf price labelling within the area of responsibility
  • Complete required checklists, including canteen and toilet or shower schedules, when on duty

Safety (OHSA) Requirements

  • Comply with safety standards, including correct use of safety equipment
  • Ensure racking and bulk stock are merchandised safely for customers and colleagues
  • Report any safety or operational discrepancies to the Store Manager

Manage Stock Loss

  • Identify and report damaged stock within the area of responsibility to the Store Manager
