Job Description
The General Assistant is responsible for delivering comprehensive in-store customer service while supporting effective merchandising, accurate shelf price labelling, and maintaining high housekeeping standards within the allocated area of responsibility.
Requirements
- Minimum Grade 10 or NQF Level 3 with one year relevant work experience, or
- Grade 12 with no prior work experience
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant local language
- Valid South African ID or work permit
- Ability to perform basic calculations accurately
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
- Ability to work effectively under pressure
Key Performance Areas
Customer Service
- Assist and advise customers on appropriate products and general queries
- Support the resolution of customer complaints in a professional and courteous manner
Merchandising Standards
- Merchandise bulk stock areas safely in accordance with the store layout plan
- Ensure assigned areas are fully merchandised according to store layouts and planograms
Housekeeping
- Maintain a clean, safe, and obstruction-free work area at all times
- Ensure stock is merchandised immediately after receipt
- Allow customers to move through aisles safely and comfortably
- Ensure accurate shelf price labelling within the area of responsibility
- Complete required checklists, including canteen and toilet or shower schedules, when on duty
Safety (OHSA) Requirements
- Comply with safety standards, including correct use of safety equipment
- Ensure racking and bulk stock are merchandised safely for customers and colleagues
- Report any safety or operational discrepancies to the Store Manager
Manage Stock Loss
- Identify and report damaged stock within the area of responsibility to the Store Manager
