DisChem Vacancies – Frontshop Assistant – Lydenburg

Dis-Chem Pharmacies in Lydenburg is looking for a Frontshop Assistant to maintain merchandising standards while delivering excellent customer service at the point of sale, in line with company policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements:

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate
  • 0 – 6 months of retail work experience

Advantageous:

  • 1 year of experience in a retail environment
  • Certification in Retail Business Management

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure shelves are fully stocked with neatly displayed merchandise at all times.
  • Monitor stock to ensure no expired or damaged items are on display.
  • Restock products as needed to maximize sales.
  • Follow up on customer out-of-stock queries in a timely manner.
  • Store and pack delivered or pulled stock in the correct locations.
  • Ensure labels, pricing, and merchandise displays are accurate and report discrepancies.
  • Maintain a clean, organized storeroom.
  • Stay updated on new product knowledge to assist customers effectively.
  • Process purchases, accept payments, and handle returns as per company policies.
  • Facilitate customer loyalty card transactions, including partner programs.
  • Ensure correct cash handling procedures, including drop safe deposits.
  • Adhere to Dis-Chem stock control and rotation procedures.
  • Assist in stock counting and general stocktaking.
  • Identify and report low stock, out-of-stock, damaged, or expired products.
  • Assist in loading and unloading stock when required.
  • Flatten and dispose of empty boxes properly.
  • Provide friendly, professional customer service and build positive relationships.
  • Report customer feedback, including compliments and complaints, to management.
  • Meet the company’s turnover per hour benchmark.
  • Train new and existing team members as required.
  • Ensure outgoing stock, items, and scripts are scanned and paid for.
  • Secure daily takings until placed in the drop safe.
  • Report suspicious behavior of staff or customers to management.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Follow Dis-Chem’s policies, health and safety regulations, and uniform guidelines.

Competencies:

Essential:

  • Knowledge of retail operations and administration
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Basic numerical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
  • Effective verbal communication
  • Ability to address customer queries efficiently
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
  • Strong time management and accountability

Advantageous:

  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with SAP

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Availability to work retail hours
  • South African citizenship
  • Clear criminal record and credit rating
  • Valid driver’s license and own reliable transport
