Overview:

Join Pick n Pay as a Fresh Foods Manager and take charge of managing hygiene and safety within our service areas, optimizing stock to maximize gross margins and profits, and ensuring that all operating standards are met.

Minimum Requirements:

• Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent
• Previous managerial experience (or previous reliever experience)
• Proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, Word, MS Teams/Zoom
• Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and after-hours stock takes
• Flexibility to be transferred between stores as needed
• Ability and willingness to undertake physical hands-on tasks
• Completion of an assessment

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Journey:

• Apply customer service standards rigorously
• Address customer service requests and advertise products and services
• Ensure visual merchandising standards are adhered to and execute all plans and promotions

People Management:

• Oversee all people-related aspects, including recruitment, training, development, and performance management
• Manage and lead a team of employees, addressing any shortcomings and assisting with talent management and succession planning

Daily Operations/Stock Management/Risk Management:

• Open and lock the store following company security procedures
• Conduct start and end-of-day reporting and administration (staff scheduling, invoices, pricing, costs, floats, banking, expense control, reconciliations, etc.)
• Ensure merchandise is offloaded, captured, packed, merchandised, and displayed according to company policy
• Monitor quality, control soilage of merchandise, and manage shrinkage
• Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards

Sales/Promotions:

• Promote sales to achieve budgets, monitor sales, turnover, and participation
• Conduct promotions and implement markdowns and RTCs
• Complete and cascade the mule train with the top team

Inventory Management:

• Ensure fresh food department is prepared and production plans are in place
• Place fresh food and expense orders for direct store delivery and DC requests
• Manage the cold chain and lead mule train actions
• Review previous day’s performance, fresh department KPIs, and deviations
• Optimize inventory by executing GIC actions and follow up on RTC and sell-through

Additional Duties:

• Conduct daily waste management
• Review movements postings, gap scan, IDT, BMC, shop use, and scheduled counts
• Manage and engage with staff, prepare Kronos scheduling changes, and ensure training completion
