Sanlam Vacancies – Fixed Income Dealer

Role Overview:

As a Fixed Income Dealer, you will manage transactions in Bonds, Bond Derivatives, Foreign Exchange, and Foreign Exchange Derivatives. Acting as a critical liaison between portfolio managers and the marketplace, you’ll ensure timely execution, provide market insights, and collaborate across various internal departments to uphold accuracy and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Trading & Execution:
    • Execute trades in bonds, foreign exchange, and derivatives, ensuring efficiency and timeliness.
    • Record trades promptly and provide explanations for any delays.
    • Allocate completed orders to relevant portfolios, adhering to bond-specific guidelines.
  2. Market Liaison:
    • Act as the link between portfolio managers and the marketplace, offering feedback on market developments.
    • Keep fund managers informed about market flows during the day.
  3. Collaboration:
    • Work closely with Operations to address trade queries, bookings, and settlement issues.
    • Partner with Business Support to ensure instrument data accuracy and pricing integrity.
    • Liaise with Compliance and other departments as necessary.
  4. Support & Data Management:
    • Assist the Fixed Income Team with data collection and model maintenance.
    • Back up the Money Market dealing activities as needed.
    • Respond to trade-related queries from Curo Financial Services and the JSE.
  5. Meetings & Reporting:
    • Participate in Fixed Income Team meetings, presenting relevant insights and updates.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Proficient in Excel, Bloomberg, and Nutron.
  • In-depth knowledge of bond brokers, proprietary trading, and major players in the bond market.
  • Understanding of SA Money Market operations and foreign exchange market rules.
  • Familiarity with FX systems and platforms.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • B.Sc in Mathematics or Statistics with 5–7 years of relevant experience.
  • Completion of all RPE exams.
  • Extensive knowledge of local and international fixed income markets and securities.
