Job Description:
We are looking for a skilled Fish Filleter to join our team! As a Fish Filleter, you will play a key role in preparing fresh fish for our customers by ensuring it is expertly filleted, cleaned, and cut to the right specifications. Your attention to detail, knowledge of fish types, and commitment to quality will ensure that we deliver only the best products. This role reports to the Supervisor and requires flexibility with shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Fish Filleter, you will:
- Expertly fillet, clean, and prepare various types of fish with precision and attention to freshness.
- Provide excellent customer service with a positive and helpful attitude.
- Merchandise the fresh fish counter and manage seafood displays in the freezers.
- Adhere to strict food safety and housekeeping standards as per company policies.
- Ensure all operational systems within the fish department are maintained.
- Assist in managing waste and shrinkage, ensuring it stays within budget.
- Support weekly stock takes and ensure proper stock rotation.
- Stay informed of promotions, advertisements, and sales opportunities within the department.
- Use knives and cutting tools, such as bandsaws, to prepare fish to customer specifications.
- Efficiently handle workload, especially during peak times.
- Maintain solid product knowledge, including local and imported fish, as well as product codes.
- Understand and promote sustainable seafood practices, such as WWF-SASSI.
Requirements:
To qualify for the Fish Filleter role, you will need:
- Matric certificate.
- Previous experience as a Cook, Chef, or Commis Chef.
- Clear communication in English.
- Reside within 20km of the job location.
- A clean criminal record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 1 year of experience in the fish industry.
- Familiarity with WWF-SASSI sustainable seafood initiatives.
- South African citizenship preferred.
