About the Role:
As a First Officer, you will support the safe, efficient, and timely operation of FlySafair flights. You will assist the Captain in all operational and administrative duties, ensure compliance with aviation regulations and company procedures, and contribute to a high standard of customer service. You will also be prepared to assume command in the event of Captain incapacitation.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations:
- Ensure the safety of each flight while maintaining efficiency and timeliness.
- Monitor aircraft systems and flight path continuously.
- Perform all pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight checks and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with internal departments, external service providers, ATC, and passengers.
- Navigate and operate the aircraft according to company SOPs and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate and complete legal and administrative documentation.
- Stay updated on SACAA, ICAO, and company regulations and Operations Manual requirements.
- Assist the Captain in maintaining crew discipline, conduct, and appearance.
- Provide advice and support to the Captain to ensure safe and efficient flight operations.
Pre-Flight:
- Review planned flight route, briefing sheets, weather forecasts, and runway conditions at the destination and alternates.
- Collaborate with the Captain on fuel planning, alternates, and operational restrictions.
- Complete all pre-flight checks and required documentation according to the Operations Manual.
In-Flight:
- Execute or monitor normal, abnormal, and emergency checklists in line with OM, FCOM, and FCTM.
- Cross-check all flight instruments, including altitude, speed, and heading, and immediately notify the Captain of deviations or hazardous situations.
- Conduct R/T communications as required.
Post-Flight:
- Ensure completion of all post-flight procedures and documentation.
- Submit relevant reports and IQSMS documentation.
Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- SACAA Commercial Pilot License.
- SACAA ATPL (preferred).
- Class 1 SACAA Medical.
- Type rating on Boeing (advantageous).
- Experience on commercial jets over 20 tons (advantageous).
- Minimum 1,500 total flying hours, including 500 multi-turbine hours (essential).
- Multi-crew experience required.
- Fit to serve with no disqualifying medical conditions.
- Willingness to sign applicable training bond(s).
- No criminal record; willing to undergo drug and alcohol testing.
- Own transport and valid RSA Driver’s License.
- South African citizen with proof of identity and valid RSA passport.
- Willing to work irregular rostered hours.
- Strong knowledge of SACAA, ICAO regulations, and Doc 8168.
