Fidelity Vacancies – Firefighter-Paarl

Positions are available within the Fidelity Group for Firefighters to respond to and manage fire-related incidents in Paarl. The role involves firefighting, emergency rescue services, providing basic medical care, fire prevention, training activities, and the operation and maintenance of firefighting equipment to protect the lives and property of Fidelity Group clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to fires, rescues, and both emergency and non-emergency humanitarian incidents.
  • Handle situations involving hazardous substances and assist with emergency operations as directed.
  • Extricate and rescue casualties and perform emergency operations under the guidance of senior officers.
  • Provide resuscitation and medical treatment to injured persons as directed.
  • Operate various firefighting equipment to control, manage, and extinguish fires.
  • Undertake fire protection duties in high-risk situations, ensuring the availability of appropriate equipment.
  • Prepare for emergency incidents and protection duties under supervision.
  • Participate in training drills, simulation exercises, and physical fitness training.
  • Train relevant employees on fire prevention and firefighting practices.
  • Advise on preventive and corrective measures to mitigate fire risks.
  • Implement security procedures and use the necessary equipment to protect people, property, and data.
  • Perform basic maintenance on firefighting equipment and vehicles to ensure operational readiness.
  • Keep accurate computerized logs of daily activities and incidents.
  • Conduct health and safety inspections to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Complete necessary documentation and participate in departmental meetings.
  • Drive and operate specialized firefighting vehicles and machinery at emergency incidents.
  • Ensure fire apparatus and emergency equipment are safely and effectively operated.
  • Assist with fire safety training, inspections, life safety education, and training drills.
  • Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, ensuring safety standards and proper protective clothing.
  • Follow equipment maintenance schedules and carry out repairs to maintain operational readiness.
  • Complete shift-related administrative tasks as per department policy and ensure accurate record-keeping.
  • Perform supervisory and functional personnel duties as needed.

Qualifications, Experience, and Other Competencies:

  • Minimum Grade 12 qualification.
  • IFSAC Accredited.
  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter II certification.
  • At least 2–3 years of firefighting training and related experience.
  • Valid Code C1 driver’s license with PrDP (Advanced driving experience is advantageous).
  • Medically and physically fit.
  • Strong knowledge of fire prevention procedures and firefighting systems.
  • Understanding of fire classes and the chemistry of fire.
  • Clear criminal record.
  • Ability to respond effectively to emergency situations.
  • Good administration, communication, and customer liaison skills.
  • Hazmat experience and knowledge essential.
  • EMT certification and First Aid levels 1 to 3.

Core Competencies:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of Hazmat guidelines.
  • Knowledge of the security industry and the Group’s code of conduct.
  • Familiarity with firefighter instructor applications within an operational role.
