Fidelity Vacancies – Firefighter-Hermanus

Fidelity Group is seeking a Firefighter for positions in Hermanus. The primary responsibility is to respond to fire incidents, provide firefighting services, emergency rescue, and basic medical care. The role also includes fire prevention duties, training activities, and the operation and maintenance of firefighting equipment and apparatus to ensure the safety of the lives and property of clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to fire incidents, rescues, and other emergency situations.
  • Handle hazardous substance incidents and assist with casualty extrication.
  • Provide emergency medical care and resuscitate injured individuals.
  • Operate firefighting equipment to control, manage, and extinguish fires.
  • Conduct fire protection duties in high-risk situations, using appropriate equipment.
  • Prepare for emergency incidents under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Participate in training drills, simulation exercises, and physical fitness activities.
  • Train employees in firefighting techniques and safety protocols.
  • Advise on fire prevention and corrective actions.
  • Perform maintenance on firefighting equipment to ensure readiness.
  • Record daily occurrences using computerized logs.
  • Conduct health and safety inspections to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Complete documentation and participate in Health and Safety Committee meetings.
  • Drive and operate specialized firefighting vehicles during emergencies.
  • Operate machinery to access buildings and extricate victims and equipment.
  • Assist in fire safety training, inspections, and life safety education.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of Grade 12.
  • IFSAC Accredited.
  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter II Certification.
  • A minimum of 2–3 years of firefighting experience.
  • Valid Code C1 driver’s license with PrDP.
  • Advanced driving experience is advantageous.
  • Medically and physically fit.
  • Knowledge of fire prevention procedures and firefighting systems.
  • Clear criminal record.
  • Ability to respond swiftly in emergency situations.
  • Hazmat experience and knowledge.
  • EMT certification and First Aid levels 1 to 3.

Core Competencies

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • In-depth understanding of Hazmat guidelines.
  • Knowledge of security industry protocols and conduct.
  • Understanding of firefighting instructor applications within operational roles.
