Position Overview:
Fidelity Services Group is seeking a dedicated and skilled Firefighter to join our team. The primary responsibility of this role is to respond to and manage fire-related incidents, ensuring the protection of lives and property. This includes firefighting, emergency rescue services, basic medical care, fire prevention, and training activities. The role also involves operating and maintaining firefighting equipment and apparatus.
Key Responsibilities (not exhaustive):
- Respond to fire incidents, rescues, and other emergency and non-emergency humanitarian situations
- Address incidents involving hazardous substances and manage related risks
- Extricate and/or release casualties, providing emergency operations as directed
- Resuscitate and treat injured persons as required during emergencies
- Operate firefighting equipment to control, manage, and extinguish fires
- Undertake fire protection duties in situations that threaten lives or property
- Participate in training drills, simulation exercises, and physical fitness training
- Train employees on fire prevention and firefighting procedures
- Advise on preventative and corrective actions related to fire safety
- Implement relevant procedures, strategies, and use of proper equipment to promote safety and security
- Perform basic maintenance on firefighting equipment and vehicles to ensure operational readiness
- Conduct regular health and safety inspections to maintain a safe work environment
- Complete computerized occurrence logs to maintain proper records of daily activities
- Drive and operate heavy specialized vehicles/appliances to emergency incidents
- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and company safety standards
- Conduct fire safety inspections and assist in fire safety education and training drills
- Ensure proper maintenance schedules for fire apparatus and associated emergency equipment
- Assist with fire safety and emergency response training for colleagues
Qualifications and Experience:
- Grade 12 (Matric) as a minimum school qualification
- IFSAC Accredited NFPA 1001 Firefighter II certification
- At least 2-3 years of related firefighting experience
- Valid code C1 driver’s license with PrDP (Advanced driving experience is advantageous)
- Medically and physically fit
- Strong understanding of fire prevention procedures and fire-fighting systems
- Knowledge of the classes and chemistry of fire and firefighting techniques
- Clear criminal record
- Capability to respond efficiently to emergency situations
- Hazmat experience and knowledge is essential
- EMT certification and First Aid Levels 1 to 3
Core Competencies:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Sound understanding of Hazmat guidelines and procedures
- Knowledge of the security industry and adherence to group conduct standards
- Knowledge of firefighter instructor applications within an operational role
- Ability to work under pressure and handle emergencies effectively
- Interpersonal communication and customer liaison skills
