Sanlam Vacancies – Finance Assistant – 12 month contract

What will you do?

This role provides vital support to the Finance Department and requires a detail-oriented individual capable of managing high volumes of invoices while meeting strict financial deadlines. Accuracy, governance, and adherence to standards are critical to the success of this position.

You will:

  • Ensure financial and accounting data is allocated correctly.
  • Process local and foreign payments in line with governance standards.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders, influencing the perception of Sanlam Group Technology.
  • Assist the Finance Controller and contribute to the financial success of the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate expenditure and recovery variances between actuals and budget.
  • Reconcile:
    • Permanent headcount vs budget.
    • Contractor listings (monthly).
    • Fixed assets and ensure alignment with the asset register.
  • Provide monthly explanations for over/under expenditure.
  • Follow up on approvals from senior management for time-sensitive payments and documents.
  • Assist with audit queries and prepare necessary documentation.
  • Capture and reconcile invoices and journals, including accruals and receipt of goods on POs.
  • Verify receipt of goods and manage re-prioritization of tasks to meet changing deadlines.
  • Update and maintain process documentation for consistency in delivery.
  • Handle ad hoc queries from vendors and clients.
  • Support the Financial Controller during the budgeting process.

What will make you successful in this role?

Qualifications:

  • Matric (Grade 12).
  • Post-Matric Financial Qualification.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years in a financial or accounting environment.
  • Experience supporting month-end processes.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
  • Working knowledge of SAP and solid understanding of accounting principles.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Financial transactions recording.
  • Reconciliation and query resolution.
  • Compliance with SOPs and SLAs.
  • Authorizing transactions within mandates.
