Sanlam Vacancies – Finance Assistant – 12 month contract
What will you do?
This role provides vital support to the Finance Department and requires a detail-oriented individual capable of managing high volumes of invoices while meeting strict financial deadlines. Accuracy, governance, and adherence to standards are critical to the success of this position.
You will:
- Ensure financial and accounting data is allocated correctly.
- Process local and foreign payments in line with governance standards.
- Communicate with internal and external stakeholders, influencing the perception of Sanlam Group Technology.
- Assist the Finance Controller and contribute to the financial success of the department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate expenditure and recovery variances between actuals and budget.
- Reconcile:
- Permanent headcount vs budget.
- Contractor listings (monthly).
- Fixed assets and ensure alignment with the asset register.
- Provide monthly explanations for over/under expenditure.
- Follow up on approvals from senior management for time-sensitive payments and documents.
- Assist with audit queries and prepare necessary documentation.
- Capture and reconcile invoices and journals, including accruals and receipt of goods on POs.
- Verify receipt of goods and manage re-prioritization of tasks to meet changing deadlines.
- Update and maintain process documentation for consistency in delivery.
- Handle ad hoc queries from vendors and clients.
- Support the Financial Controller during the budgeting process.
What will make you successful in this role?
Qualifications:
- Matric (Grade 12).
- Post-Matric Financial Qualification.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years in a financial or accounting environment.
- Experience supporting month-end processes.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
- Working knowledge of SAP and solid understanding of accounting principles.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Financial transactions recording.
- Reconciliation and query resolution.
- Compliance with SOPs and SLAs.
- Authorizing transactions within mandates.
