Transnet Vacancies – ER Practitioners

Transnet is seeking a skilled Employee Relations (ER) Practitioner to support our Employee Relations Specialist. This role is critical for promoting a harmonious work environment by implementing effective employee and industrial relations support functions. The ER Practitioner will work with internal and external stakeholders to minimize conflicts and risks to the business.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Collective Agreements
    • Implement and communicate compliance with collective agreements between labor and management.
    • Coordinate consultative meetings according to Transnet governance structures and prevailing recognition agreements.
    • Monitor compliance with Transnet’s recognition agreements and manage internal and external stakeholder relationships.
    • Implement stakeholder engagement plans to maintain harmony in the workplace.
  2. Individual Labour Law
    • Maintain and update ER internal controls, including monthly SAP updates, HR Council reports, and agency fees.
    • Monitor and compile reports on ER-related statistics, such as disputes, grievances, mediations, and arbitrations.
    • Coordinate conflict resolution using established procedures, including disciplinary codes and grievance mechanisms, to ensure compliance with Transnet policies and timelines.
    • Ensure that Transnet is properly represented in various ER forums, such as CCMA, Bargaining Council, and Labour Court.
  3. Advisory Services
    • Represent Transnet in various ER forums, including EE forums, skills development, LBC, conciliation, arbitration, disciplinary hearings, and grievance meetings.
    • Provide first-line assistance and support to HR and business managers to promote effective ER service delivery.
    • Offer guidance and advice to ensure understanding, fairness, and consistency in the application of HR policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

  • National Diploma or National Higher Diploma in HR, focusing on Employee Relations, or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of experience in an ER department.
  • Experience with major transformation and change management initiatives.
  • Valid driver’s license (code 08).
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Competencies

  • In-depth knowledge of Employee Relations legislation, HR strategies, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of Human Resources practices and processes.
  • Applied knowledge of Transnet’s collective bargaining structures and HR/ER policies.
  • Understanding of various ER forums, including Bargaining Council and CCMA.
