Job Overview:
As an Engineer at MTN, your primary responsibility will be to manage the day-to-day operations and maintenance (O&M) of the Regional RAN Access Network, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to safety standards. You will oversee the installation, testing, and maintenance of network hardware, working closely with contractors and service providers to maintain network quality, reliability, and availability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Network Operations: Monitor the status and performance of the switch and associated structures to ensure optimal functioning of the regional network.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure the correct installation of hardware, conduct quality checks, and ensure adherence to MTN policies during switch expansions and installations.
- Governance and Compliance: Ensure compliance with MTN’s operational standards and best practices, overseeing contractors and Managed Service Providers (MSP).
- Transmission and Network Monitoring: Monitor transmission key performance indicators (KPIs), drive improvements, and track performance against service level agreements (SLAs).
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Oversee routine maintenance, hardware inspections, and fault resolution. Conduct end-to-end testing on transmission (TX) links and ensure network alarms are managed effectively.
- Asset Management: Maintain control over assets, including hardware and spares, and ensure accurate records of equipment and installations.
- Reporting and Escalation: Provide regular reports on network performance, faults, and improvements. Escalate issues and follow up on all necessary actions.
Minimum Requirements:
- Education: 3-year degree/diploma in Engineering or a related field (e.g., BSc in Engineering).
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in GSM telecommunications or a related field.

- Competencies: Knowledge of MTN policies, network architecture, and industry standards.
General Requirements:
- Must have your own transportation, as travel to various sites is required.
- Available for scheduled and unscheduled overtime, including night shifts and on-call duties for emergencies.
- Ability to control contractor activities on-site and ensure compliance with MTN policies.
