DisChem Vacancies – Draughtsman

Job Overview:
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a skilled Draughtsman to join our team in Midrand. The Draughtsman will be responsible for creating, reviewing, and managing technical store drawings based on provided specifications and calculations. This role requires proficiency in both manual drafting and computer-assisted design applications.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Design Management:

  • Draft detailed plans, drawings, and specifications for various projects.
  • Update and maintain store floor plans, incorporating equipment lists and layout changes.
  • Produce comprehensive drawings that detail building dimensions, materials, and construction procedures.
  • Organize and distribute building plans, permits, and site instructions as needed.
  • Ensure all work aligns with project specifications and is completed within the established guidelines.
  • Maintain a Variations Register for authorized drawing revisions, documenting any cost changes to contracts.

Project Management:

  • Compile and analyze shop drawings and related documentation to prepare cost estimates, material usage, and labor requirements.
  • Assist in resolving technical discrepancies by interpreting drawings and specifications.
  • Review and specify dimensions, materials, and procedures for new product designs.
  • Use verification techniques to manage changes in project scope.
  • Work under the supervision of the Project Manager to compile group specifications and reference drawings.

Compliance & Risk Prevention:

  • Ensure that all designs comply with Good Pharmacy Practice and relevant legislation.
  • Conduct detailed site checks on new stores, identifying ways to improve workflow, procedures, and infrastructure.
  • Stay informed about National legislation and compliance regulations.

Administration & Reporting:

  • Maintain organized office administration, including sourcing quotations and liaising with stores, particularly during revamps.
  • Document and escalate project issues as needed.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance, registers, and routine job checks.
  • Schedule site visits and manage the ordering of supplies.
  • Report on drawing variations and project progress to management.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Essential:
    • Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate.
    • Relevant Architectural Technology Qualification (Shop Design and/or Interior Design).
    • 2-5 years of experience in architectural or interior design.
    • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Advantageous:
    • Experience in retail design projects.

Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of SANS 0400 Building regulations and JBCC forms of contract.
  • Ability to develop innovative solutions to workplace challenges.
  • Clear vision and strategic understanding of project requirements.
  • Proficient in interpreting and utilizing visual and textual information.
  • Ability to build constructive working relationships with high levels of cooperation and mutual respect.
  • Commitment to quality, accuracy, and maintaining standards.
  • Takes personal responsibility for work quality and meets deadlines with minimal oversight.

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Clear criminal and credit records (MIE).
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transport.
