Job Overview:
Dis-Chem Pharmacies’ Rynfield store is seeking enthusiastic individuals for the role of Dispensary Support. This opportunity is ideal for learners who are ready to embark on a career in the pharmaceutical field by completing the learner basic pharmacist assistant course. This course will provide learners with a solid foundation in the key areas of pharmaceutical practice, focusing on quality, on-the-job learning. Initially, you will be employed on a fixed-term basis as Dispensary Support. Permanent employment will be considered once you are registered with the SAPC as a learner basic assistant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Successfully complete the proficiency test to qualify for registration with the Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a learner basic assistant.
  • Under the supervision of a pharmacist, assist in the sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances.
  • Aid in the compounding, preparation, or manipulation of non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances following approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Assist in the unpacking, merchandising, and maintaining the cleanliness of dispensary and OTC shelves, under the guidance of the responsible pharmacist.
  • Perform any additional tasks as assigned by the Dispensary Manager.
  • Learn to accurately interpret prescriptions, acting in a professional and responsible manner while adhering to legal requirements set by the South African Pharmacy Council.
  • Ensure accurate picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medications, and be aware of common dosages and important drug interactions.
  • Ensure all medications are double-checked and signed off by a pharmacist.
  • Assist in managing stock control, including organizing shelves and monitoring medicine expiry dates for Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances.
  • Follow up on script tracking reports and manage patient appointments as directed by the dispensary manager.
  • Support call center operations and handle patient service telephone inquiries.
  • Provide health-related information to individuals to promote well-being.
  • Assist with scheme authorization for chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medications.
  • Report low or out-of-stock levels and stock discrepancies to the dispensary manager.
  • Receive and manage dispensary stock according to company SOPs.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Essential:
    • Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate with at least 50% in Pure Mathematics, Life Science, or Physical Science.

Competencies:

  • Proficiency in English and a second language—ability to read, write, and speak.
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and handle pressure.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team, manage conflicts, and lead by example.
  • Professional conduct, accountability, and a trustworthy, honest character.
  • Competence in computer and numerical skills.

Advantageous:

  • Experience in retail FMCG or Dis-Chem front shop with a strong performance record.
  • Knowledge of drug and family planning, as well as complementary medicine.
  • Experience with Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting systems.

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Must pass a proficiency test to register with the Pharmacy Council.
  • South African citizenship.
  • Clear criminal and credit record (MIE).
