Job Overview:
Dis-Chem Pharmacies’ Farramere store is looking for a Dispensary Support team member. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals aiming to complete the learner basic pharmacist assistant course. This course will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of pharmaceutical principles and dispensing practices, promoting quality on-the-job learning. You will be employed in a Fixed-Term position as Dispensary Support until you are registered with the SAPC as a learner basic assistant. Permanent employment will be offered upon qualification as a basic pharmacist assistant.

Key Responsibilities:

• Pass a proficiency test to qualify for registration with the Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a learner basic assistant.
• Under direct supervision from a pharmacist, assist with:
  • The sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances.
  • Compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances according to approved formulas and SOPs.
  • Unpacking, merchandising, and cleaning of dispensary and OTC shelves.
  • Other tasks assigned by the Dispensary Manager.
• Learn to interpret prescriptions accurately and adhere to the legal requirements set by the South African Pharmaceutical Council.
• Ensure precise picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medication, and be aware of dosages and drug interactions.
• Confirm that all medications are checked and signed for accuracy by a pharmacist.
• Assist with stock control, including managing cleanliness, organizing shelves, and monitoring expiry dates of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances.
• Follow up with patients on script tracking and appointments as requested by the Dispensary Manager.
• Assist with call center scripts and patient service telephone inquiries.
• Provide health information to promote wellness.
• Help with scheme authorization for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medications.
• Report low or out-of-stock levels and stock errors to the Dispensary Manager.
• Receive dispensary stock following company SOPs.

Minimum Requirements:

• Essential:
  • Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate with at least 50% in Pure Mathematics, Life Science, or Physical Science, and an overall average of 50%.

Competencies:

• Proficiency in English and a second language—ability to read, write, and speak.
• Strong time management skills, ability to meet deadlines, handle pressure, and maintain attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills, including listening, customer service, problem-solving, and conflict management.
• Team-oriented with a professional, accountable, and trustworthy demeanor.
• Competency in computer and numerical skills.

Advantageous:

• Experience in retail FMCG or Dis-Chem front shop with a strong performance record.
• Knowledge of drug and family planning, as well as complementary medicine.
• Familiarity with Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting systems.

Special Conditions of Employment:

• Must pass a proficiency test to register with the Pharmacy Council.
• South African citizenship.
• Clear criminal and credit record (MIE).
