DisChem Vacancies – Dispensary Manager

Job Overview:
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a skilled Dispensary Manager for their Wonderboom store. This role involves managing and supervising the dispensary and self-medication areas, ensuring that pharmaceutical care meets the highest standards. You will be responsible for addressing patient needs, overseeing staff, and maintaining compliance with pharmaceutical regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and supervise the dispensary and self-medication areas, ensuring adequate staffing and adherence to scope of practice.
  • Enforce Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) rules and regulations among staff.
  • Monitor stock levels to ensure no expired or short-dated stock is held; regularly dispose of expired stock and manage negative stock.
  • Prepare for stocktaking and follow the stock ordering process to ensure maximum purchasing compliance.
  • Secure Schedule 6 medication and maintain accurate records; keep SAPC registration and annual fees up to date.
  • Interpret prescriptions accurately, act professionally, and ensure legal compliance according to SAPC regulations.
  • Capture script details, verify patient information, and ensure accurate medication picking, packing, labeling, and checking.
  • Provide clear instructions to patients on medication use and stay updated on medical aid procedures and requirements for claims and dispensing.
  • Process and submit paperwork for medical aid claims and ensure authorization of chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medications.
  • Maintain and manage customer profiles, including merging profiles and handling profile messages.
  • Oversee training and management of the Dispensary Admin Assistant, ensuring they handle most of the dispensary administration tasks.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Essential:
    • Grade 12 / Matric.
    • BPharm or equivalent qualification.
    • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
    • Registered tutor.
    • Experience with Unisolv.
    • Supervisory experience.
    • Computer literate (MS Office).
    • Strong numerical skills.
    • Proficiency in English and a second language.
    • Ability and willingness to work retail hours.
  • Advantageous:
    • Previous management experience of at least 7 staff members.
    • Relevant retail/FMCG experience.
    • Knowledge of a third additional language.
    • Experience with SAP and E-Scripting.

Competencies:

  • Proficiency in English and a second language (read, write, speak).
  • Strong communication skills and customer service focus.
  • Basic knowledge of dosing, drug interactions, and conflict management.
  • Proven supervisory experience and ability to train staff.
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work under pressure.
  • Trustworthy, honest, and a team player.
  • Good time management and computer skills (MS Office).

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council.
  • Willing and able to work retail hours.
  • Ability to manage conditions such as controlled room temperature, security, and limited space.
  • Physically fit, able to stand for long periods.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transport.
  • South African citizenship.
