Job Description:
An exciting opportunity has arisen at our Dunns Support office within the Merchandise Department for a Designer. This dynamic role will focus on interpreting Trend designs and creating original Cads, Artworks, Trims, and complete Tech packs. As a Designer, you will collaborate with buyers in your portfolio and use group trend resources to bring innovative designs to life.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in adding value to our brand by executing the Dunns Merchandising Strategy across our stores. We’re looking for a self-motivated, passionate individual with high energy who thrives in a fast-paced and dynamic retail environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with seasonal trend presentations and execute design strategies.
• Interpret Buyers’ briefs into relevant CAD designs for supplier briefings.
• Propose seasonal updates on winning styles based on current trade data.
• Design products in line with the merchandise strategy for each portfolio.
• Ensure designs and reworks align with brand positioning.
• Deliver on design elements such as labels, ticketing, and other branding devices based on buyer input.
• Translate seasonal trends into brand-appropriate fashion, working closely with the buying department.
• Stay updated with both local and international trends to provide actionable insights.
• Collaborate with product technologists to create Tech packs for supplier briefings.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Relevant Degree (e.g., Fine Arts, Graphic Design) or Diploma (e.g., Art/Graphic Design/Fashion/Clothing Design).
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Fashion Designer, specifically in clothing/product design for Retail and Apparel.
• Proven proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop).
• Strong ability to translate conceptual ideas into brand-aligned designs.
• Knowledge of the retail merchandise cycle and buying process.
• Understanding of product and fabric construction is an advantage.
• Ability to identify and translate trends into mood, color, print, and silhouette directions.
• Skilled in designing updates for best sellers and creating seasonal repeat fashion programs.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Passionate about staying current with fashion trends.

• Must be able to travel within Southern Africa.
• Excellent communication skills at all levels, both within and outside the company.
• Ability to meet deadlines, maintain flexibility, and work effectively under pressure.
• Exceptional time management, organizational, and presentation skills.
