About the Role:
As a Database Administrator, you’ll work closely with a team to design and maintain database infrastructure, monitor performance, and troubleshoot database systems for clients within the Pepkor group. You will be working with technologies like MySQL, MSSQL, Oracle, Google Cloud Products, and Azure. Your role will involve database maintenance, upgrades, performance tuning, audit remediation, change management, daily system checks, patching, backups, recovery, and replication.
This position is ideal for someone who is proactive, enjoys problem-solving, and can both work independently and as part of a collaborative team. You will also be required to provide after-hours support during standby shifts, typically once every five weeks, to handle alerts or deploy planned changes/maintenance. The role is dynamic, with continuous learning and upskilling opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:

Monitor and address incoming support tickets logged by developers.

Perform database backups and restores.

Manage database replication.

Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues.

Set up and deploy database object change scripts as requested by developers and third-party vendors.

Conduct proactive health checks and capacity planning.

Manage database security, including users, roles, and profiles.

Maintain proper documentation.

Apply audit policies and adhere to best practices.

Patch various database technologies.

Upgrade database software as needed.
Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Proficiency in database management systems such as Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL.

6-7 years of experience as a Database Administrator, with a focus on performance tuning and security.

Solid knowledge of database technologies.

Strong understanding of database structures, principles, and practices.

Experience with cloud-based database solutions is advantageous.
