Job Description
Anova Health Institute, an NGO dedicated to transforming lives through quality healthcare, is seeking a Counsellor – Facility and Community. This role involves providing HIV Testing Services (HTS) and ensuring proper linkage to care for all HIV-infected patients according to Department of Health guidelines. The Counsellor will also be responsible for performing HTS during community outreach campaigns as needed.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deliver HIV Testing Services (HTS) to clients in accordance with Department of Health policies, District 909090 DIP, and Sub-district IP 909090 plans.
- Provide HTS at both facility and community levels, including out-of-facility sites as required.
- Promote HTS through health talks and participation in social mobilization activities.
- Offer post-test counseling and adherence support to clients.
- Facilitate linkage of HIV-positive clients to facilities for ARV initiation or mobile clinics.
- Trace positive-tested clients who were not initiated on the same day.
- Assist HIV patients in both facility and community settings with relevant counseling needs.
- Ensure all HIV-positive clients are successfully linked to care and track the number initiated on Antiretroviral treatment.
- Report any challenges related to the referral system and linkage to care to the Community Coordinator.
- Maintain up-to-date records of clients offered HTS, tested, tested HIV-positive, and linked to care, using DoH and Anova tools, and update the facility register daily.
- Identify and establish working relationships with key programme stakeholders.
- Provide feedback to the Community Coordinator on social dynamics affecting project activities.
Minimum Qualifications, Experience, and Skills Required:
- Matric qualification.
- Training and certification in Basic HIV and AIDS, STI and TB (HAST), HIV Counseling, Adherence Counseling, and finger pricking.
- Experience in ROTF support counseling, adherence clubs, and additional certificates in Couple Counseling, RTCQI, disclosure, and pediatric consent are advantageous.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a counselor, with at least 2 years in an HIV or public health environment.
- Knowledge of DoH HTS guidelines and protocols.
- General understanding of health education and TB/HIV/PMTCT programme guidelines and counseling messages.
- Strong counseling skills and excellent oral and written communication abilities.
- Ability to manage relationships effectively and demonstrate strong organizational skills, including task and time management, multitasking, and working independently.
