Job Description:

Tiger Brands is seeking a skilled Cost Accountant to oversee the accurate and timely calculation of fully absorbed costs for all SKUs. You will play a key role in monthly reporting and analysis, focusing on product mix, volume, conversion costs, productivity, efficiency, and manufacturing expenses. Your ability to summarize key findings and provide actionable insights will support management in decision-making. Additionally, you will conduct cost reviews, stock valuation, and ensure compliance with internal control requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Cost Calculation: Accurately calculate fully absorbed costs for all SKUs, ensuring all aspects of the manufacturing process are reflected correctly in the ERP system.
  • Bills of Material: Load new bills of material for manufacturing units and update existing ones as required, ensuring timely and accurate input based on the costing pack.
  • Monthly Reporting: Validate and report on yield, purchase price, and manufacturing variances. Provide insights into cost drivers, savings opportunities, and manufacturing expenses.
  • Stock Valuation: Conduct regular reviews and valuation of stock to ensure accuracy and compliance with financial controls.
  • Manufacturing Costs: Monitor and control factory expenses, ensuring full transparency of financial impacts related to factory operations and strategic decisions.
  • Business Planning & Budgeting: Collaborate with procurement and factory management on budget preparation, business planning, and financial simulations. Support new product costing and cost-saving projects.
  • Cost Improvement: Actively seek and support opportunities for cost improvement. Collaborate with Engineering and other departments to manage costs, review capital proposals, and validate proposed savings.
  • Financial Reporting: Compile and report actual costs and forecasts for the factory, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and transparency throughout the period-end close process.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to financial policies, accounting standards, and costing standards, maintaining a robust internal control environment.

Qualifications:

  • Key Attributes & Competencies:
    • Strong conceptual and analytical thinking with creative problem-solving skills.
    • Effective communication skills to liaise with non-financial functions.
    • Ability to take initiative, work under pressure, and manage tight deadlines.
    • Experience in shop floor process control, with a focus on identifying issues through operational data.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a FMCG manufacturing environment.
    • Relevant finance qualifications.
    • Proficiency in Oracle and advanced computer skills.
    • Expertise in budgeting, financial reporting, cost analysis, standard costing, and capital application processing.
