Position Overview:
Transnet is seeking a dedicated Contract Trainee Controller to ensure the safe and efficient movement of petroleum products through our pipeline network. The role involves operating specialized equipment according to scheduled programs and instructions, with a strong focus on maintaining product quality, ensuring safety, and achieving customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities: As a Trainee Controller, you will receive comprehensive training to develop the skills needed to manage the following tasks:
- Risk and Pollution Control:
- Communicate and document the depot’s risk status to relevant stakeholders.
- Extract and analyze information related to risk status reports.
- Enforce company and legislative regulations regarding risk management, including permits, protective clothing, restrictions, and safety instructions.
- Monitor separator tanks for leaks and spillages, and drain water from bund areas.
- Handling Transmixtures/Intermixtures:
- Operate company systems and software to control pipeline equipment for managing mixtures.
- Capture and verify information, ensuring accuracy and prioritization according to company policies.
- Plan and manage the blending and tanker loading of intermixtures.
- Minor Maintenance:
- Perform unscheduled and scheduled minor maintenance tasks, including testing, lubricating, and repairing equipment.
- Capture and analyze maintenance-related information.
- Launching and Receiving Pigs and Spheres:
- Coordinate the launching of pigs and spheres using company systems and software.
- Follow company procedures for isolation, draining, and opening during launching operations.
- Product Metering:
- Use company operating systems to control metering equipment.
- Capture and verify data related to product metering.
- Pipeline Shut Downs:
- Implement corrective actions for substandard conditions leading to pipeline shutdowns.
- Monitor and manage the shutdown process, capturing relevant information.
- Product Quality Testing:
- Conduct product quality tests using company equipment and software.
- Monitor pipeline equipment performance and product movement, capturing essential data.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Matric/Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science OR N3 Technical Engineering in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Metering Control & Instrumentation.
- Competency assessment in technical ability, numeric, verbal, and abstract reasoning.
- Proficiency in English.
- Valid driver’s license (Code 08).
- 12-18 months of practical, on-the-job experience.
