Transnet Vacancies – Compliance Specialist: Assurance

Position Purpose:

As a Compliance Specialist: Assurance at Transnet, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Divisional Compliance Champion by ensuring that Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) adheres to all statutory, regulatory, and supervisory requirements. Your work will enable TPT to demonstrate to regulatory authorities its fitness to conduct business. You will provide assurance through comprehensive compliance monitoring, ensuring that the compliance framework within TPT is robust and effective. Your findings and recommendations will be reported to the TPT Executive Committee and Risk Committee. Additionally, you will be responsible for embedding a strong compliance culture within TPT and ensuring that compliance processes, structures, policies, and procedures are developed, maintained, and adhered to.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement all compliance monitoring activities as outlined in the compliance monitoring plan.
  • Schedule and plan compliance monitoring activities to ensure TPT’s adherence to regulatory and statutory requirements.
  • Investigate compliance issues and regulatory matters, raising and reporting issues of non-compliance.
  • Recommend corrective actions and monitor their implementation.
  • Manage and maintain an electronic tracking system for compliance issues.
  • Monitor and report on high-risk compliance requirements.
  • Prepare detailed reports on compliance breaches and exposures, and track the implementation of recommendations.
  • Assist in developing and amending compliance policies in response to new legislation or amendments to existing Acts.
  • Participate in interpreting new legal and regulatory requirements, overseeing their implementation across TPT.
  • Provide regular compliance reports to TPT EXCO and other relevant committees, keeping them informed of compliance risks and exposures.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive compliance training to TPT Compliance Champions and other relevant personnel.
  • Develop and manage systems for compliance risk management, including tracking tools to monitor compliance requirements.
  • Ensure continuous improvement in the quality, availability, and integrity of compliance data and reports.
  • Facilitate compliance risk awareness throughout TPT and maintain strong working relationships with Internal Audit and Internal Control.
  • Manage specific TPT compliance projects and support the rollout of Group Compliance Projects.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law or B. Com.
  • Postgraduate Qualification or Compliance Certificate.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a legal compliance and regulatory role.
  • Relevant National Diploma (NQF 6) with at least 6 years of relevant experience, including 2 years at a supervisory level or in a specialist role.
  • Advantageous: Transnet Leadership Development Programme.
