Job Description:
Anova Health Institute, a leading NGO dedicated to improving health and quality of life, is seeking compassionate and dedicated Community Health Workers. This role involves delivering an integrated health and wellness service package, including prevention, promotion, rehabilitation, and palliative care to individuals in their households.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Physical Care:
- Assist patients with personal hygiene and wound care using appropriate techniques.
- Provide stoma therapy, catheter care, nail and foot care, and tracheotomy care.
- Monitor vital signs, including temperature, pulse, and respiration.
- Assess emergency situations and provide basic life support and first aid.
- Aid in patient mobility, exercise limbs, and assist with daily activities, including bed and toilet assistance.
- Prepare patient snacks and meals if needed, and distribute food parcels where eligible.
Care of Patient’s Environment:
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients, including bed making and disposal of soiled linen.
- Implement infection control practices.
Health and Education:
- Educate patients and families on home care, resources, and nutrition.
- Provide specialized care guidance and follow universal blood precautions.
Referral Criteria:
- Refer patients to health facilities and service providers as needed.
- Report any changes in patient conditions to the supervisor.
Administration & General Duties:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
- Complete record forms promptly and adhere to organizational policies and procedures.
- Follow the daily work schedule and participate in meetings and training sessions.
Medication:
- Supervise and administer medication, ensuring completion of prescribed treatments.
- Report any medication-related issues to the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications, Experience, and Skills Required:
- Grade 10-12.
- Home-based carer qualification/certificate.
- Experience working within communities.
- 10-day HIV Counselling Certificate and TB/HIV Adherence Counselling Certificate (advantageous).
- Background knowledge of HAST & NCD.
Locations: Kraaifontein, Parow, Strandfontein.
