Commercial Executive – Clicks Group
Job Purpose
The Commercial Executive is responsible for driving competitive and sustainable growth within the Commercial division by leading category strategy, value retailing, and strategic supplier partnerships. The role focuses on growing market share, improving margins, and delivering commercial objectives in a highly competitive health and beauty retail environment.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and execute category strategies and operating plans aligned to Commercial and Group objectives.

Lead product assortment strategies, including exclusive and differentiated ranges, to position the business as a preferred destination in health and beauty.

Implement space and range principles to ensure impactful in-store execution and seamless digital merchandising.

Drive value retailing through effective price policy, promotional strategy, and trade terms to achieve sales, margin, and customer outcomes.

Define category budgets and annual operating plans, monitor KPIs, and implement data-driven corrective actions.

Build and manage strong supplier partnerships, negotiating competitive trading terms, joint business plans, and service level agreements.

Collaborate closely with Supply Chain, Stores, Omni-channel, Finance, and Marketing teams to ensure end-to-end delivery.

Lead, develop, and inspire high-performing teams to achieve current and future business objectives.

Improve merchandise ways of working across divisions to enhance speed, efficiency, and execution excellence.
Functional Expertise

Extensive category management experience in FMCG, health, and beauty with a strong trading track record.

Proven value retailing capability and sound commercial judgement.

Digital proficiency across e-commerce, retail media, and data-led merchandising.

Strong understanding of the South African FMCG landscape, consumer missions, and market dynamics.

End-to-end supply chain knowledge from sourcing through to shelf availability and fulfilment.

Financial planning expertise, including budgeting, forecasting, and P&L ownership.

Advanced supplier negotiation skills, including trading terms and joint business planning.

Strong retail management capability, including market trend and competitor analysis.

Working knowledge of relevant legislation, product compliance, and labelling requirements.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Relevant degree such as BCom is essential; postgraduate qualification or MBA is advantageous.

5 to 8 years’ experience in a senior commercial role within retail or FMCG.

Proven track record of delivering category growth, margin improvement, and successful supplier negotiations in competitive markets.
