Sasol careers – Chief Foreman

The Chief Foreman will be responsible for managing engineering maintenance processes within the designated area of responsibility. This role ensures that mining teams meet production targets by adhering to the principles of Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, and Morale (QCDSM).

Key Accountabilities

  • Oversee and implement engineering and maintenance strategies, ensuring that daily operations meet departmental KPIs and provide timely maintenance, including decisions to repair or replace equipment.
  • Manage maintenance costs against the R/t in the appointed area and maintain the maintenance budget.
  • Maximize equipment availability by effectively managing downtime, shift schedules, and mean time to failure (MTTF) and mean time to repair (MTTR) for infrastructure and inspection equipment.
  • Ensure strict adherence to the maintenance program and operational procedures.
  • Implement operational projects and ensure engineering compliance, developing and applying Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the appointed area of responsibility.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering principles, legislation, and governance bodies, including standardization committees.
  • Evaluate the economic and engineering viability of business cases, providing inspection expertise and coaching.
  • Manage the delivery of Operational Excellence (OE) initiatives and execute condition monitoring programs.
  • Analyze failure trends and eliminate root causes, implementing predictive maintenance recommendations.
  • Support departmental goals by coordinating planning in the appointed area of responsibility, controlling costs to meet production targets within budget.
  • Drive a culture of best-in-class safety performance, continuously improving key safety metrics to achieve Zero Harm and Zero Fatalities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental (SHE) targets and improve the SHE compliance rates, focusing on addressing major findings and reducing outstanding actions.
  • Manage the recruitment, training, coaching, and career development of the team, maintaining appropriate vacancy rates and staff turnover in line with industry standards.
  • Foster employee engagement and enablement scores, achieve training and development targets, and monitor departmental performance against monthly bonus and safety goals.

Formal Education

  • Post-School Tertiary Diploma
  • B-Tech or BEng in Engineering
  • Trade Test Certificate (Boilermaker)

Working Experience

  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Foreman
