Position Overview:
Transnet is seeking a Contract Trainee Controller to support our security control room operations, ensuring compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. This role involves monitoring CCTV systems, coordinating security activities, and managing security-related administration to maintain the safety and security of the port facility.
Key Responsibilities: As a Contract Trainee Controller, you will be trained to perform the following duties:
- CCTV and Security Systems Monitoring:
- Operate and monitor CCTV cameras, detection systems, and other associated security technologies.
- Conduct regular testing and maintain communication between the control room and security personnel deployed within the facility.
- Security Coordination:
- Coordinate security patrols and field surveillance within the facility.
- Relay information regarding security situations to the Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) or designated personnel.
- Liaise with emergency services and police during security incidents.
- Incident Management:
- Coordinate the response of security personnel during incidents, ensuring efficient deployment and action.
- Compile and capture incident reports using the Transnet Security Incident Management System (SIMA).
- Security System Maintenance:
- Maintain a security system maintenance register, including records of equipment tests, calibrations, and the condition of security infrastructure (e.g., lighting, fencing, locks).
- Administrative Duties:
- Maintain security registers and issue security permits.
- Monitor the movement of hazardous cargo and manage the Declaration of Security (DOS) between the port facility and ships.
- Safekeep and manage recorded information, preserving evidence for internal and external hearings as required.
- Coordination and Communication:
- Coordinate site inspections and security-related visits by management teams.
- Liaise with port control to monitor waterside and port-wide security measures.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Grade 12/NQF 4
- 2 years of relevant experience in Port Operations, Maritime Services, or Security Environment
- Relevant training in CCTV operations, preferably on IP-based systems
- PSIRA registration (Grade C)
- Computer literacy
- 6 – 12 months of experience in a security control room or ROC
- Grade 10/NQF 2 with 3 years of relevant experience
Competencies:
- Knowledge of security guarding principles
- Understanding of Transnet business processes, policies, and standards
- Familiarity with Customs, Immigration, and Ports of Entry procedures
- Knowledge of ISPS Code and Maritime Security
- Proficiency in security systems technology and computer literacy
- Strong communication, team-building, and decision-making skills
- Awareness of Occupational Health and Safety regulations
- First aid and fire fighting knowledge
- Ability to manage change, remain flexible, and handle security incidents with sound judgment
