Job Description:
SPAR is seeking a skilled Category Manager to join our team and drive profitability by ensuring the right products are available in the right quantities, at the right price. The successful candidate will be responsible for achieving targeted sales, managing stock levels, and maximizing gross profit while adhering to the company’s marketing policies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Negotiate with suppliers and sales representatives, maintaining comprehensive transaction records.
• Secure deals and prices to achieve competitive retail pricing and gross profit targets for the Distribution Centre (DC) and retailers.
• Provide assistance to retailers with store standards, specifications, product ranges, pricing, and promotions.
• Ensure the achievement of targeted sales, stock levels, and gross profits, while minimizing stock shortages.
• Manage and execute promotions to drive sales growth across retail outlets.
• Oversee product range selection, including seasonal product management.

Minimum Requirements:

• Matric.
• In-depth knowledge of buying systems and processes is essential.
• Experience in bakery department management is required.
• Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills (a formal negotiation skills course would be an advantage).
• Ability to thrive in a challenging and fast-paced environment.
• High levels of initiative, urgency, and innovation in addressing business challenges.
• A degree in Business/Commerce or a relevant diploma is required (Marketing or Supply Chain Management would be advantageous).
• Proven leadership skills with experience in coaching, mentoring, and training team members.
• A minimum of 5 years’ buying experience is advantageous.
• Knowledge of the FMCG/retail industry is essential.
