Dischem Careers – Casual Cashier – Hillcrest, KwaZulu-Natal

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking an experienced Casual Cashier to join our Hillcrest store in Durban. The Casual Cashier will support customer service at the point of sale, ensuring a world-class shopping experience. This role involves recording customer transactions on the Dis-Chem operating system according to company policies and standard operating procedures, with a focus on accuracy and reducing the risk of fraud.

Minimum Requirements:

• Essential:
  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • At least 6 months of cashier/till operations experience
  • Computer literate (MS Office)
  • Strong numerical skills
  • Strong command of the English language
  • Basic customer service skills
  • Willing and able to work retail hours

Job Responsibilities:

• Adhere to Dis-Chem’s customer service policies and procedures.
• Establish a professional relationship with customers and report complaints and compliments to the Frontline Supervisor or store management.
• Maintain awareness of current sales and promotions to better assist customers.
• Manage cash flow, ensuring all cash transactions are processed accurately and securely.
• Ensure all line voids and price changes are approved and signed off by the supervisor.
• Process all transactions, including cash, bank cards, vouchers, coupons, and other forms of payment.
• Process loyalty cards, including those of our accelerator partners (e.g., Discovery Health Care, Medihelp Lifestage, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards, and eBucks).
• Ensure cash is placed in the drop safe according to Dis-Chem’s standard operating procedures.
• Handle daily takings confidentially and only discuss with management.
• Be alert and report any suspicious behavior to management.
• Address customer queries regarding store merchandise and adhere to Dis-Chem’s security policies.

Competencies:

• Essential:
  • Strong knowledge of operating cash registers and maintaining cash drawers.
  • Knowledge of processing sales, refunds, and payments.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Presentable with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Trustworthy and honest.
  • Good problem-solving skills and accountability.
  • Excellent time management skills.
• Advantageous:
  • Knowledge of a third additional language.

• Willing and able to work retail hours.
• Reliable transport or residence in close proximity to the store.
• South African citizenship.
• Clear credit and criminal records.
