Job Overview
We are looking for a reliable and friendly Cashier to join our team at Food Lovers Market! As a Cashier, you will play a key role in providing an exceptional shopping experience for our customers. You’ll be responsible for handling transactions, ensuring the correct amount of change is given, and maintaining a balanced cash register. Your attention to detail and strong math skills will help ensure smooth operations, while your customer service will leave a positive impression on everyone who walks through our doors. This role requires working shifts during both trading and non-trading hours, including Sundays and Public Holidays.
Key Responsibilities
As a Cashier, your tasks will include:
- Operating an electronic point of sale (POS) system with a scale attached
- Accurately ringing up purchases and ensuring correct change is given
- Maintaining balanced cash during cash-ups
- Keeping the till area clean, hygienic, and organized
- Providing friendly and exceptional customer service
- Staying informed about product codes, promotions, and sales
- Managing multiple payment methods, including cash, debit cards, and credit cards
- Ensuring efficient service during busy periods while maintaining professionalism
- Communicating clearly with customers and team members
- Adhering to time management practices and deadlines
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following requirements:
- Matric (High School Diploma)
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Cashier
- Clear criminal record
- Ability to communicate fluently in English
- Reside within 25km of the job location
- South African candidates only
Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following would be advantageous:
- Previous experience using a cash register or computer-based POS system
- Knowledge of handling different payment types (cash, credit, and debit cards)
