Job Description
The Cashier is responsible for the accurate processing of all Point of Sale (POS) transactions and related documentation to ensure a positive customer experience. The role ensures that all goods and stock are correctly scanned and paid for before leaving the store.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 or a minimum of one year relevant work experience
  • Ability to communicate in English and the dominant local language
  • Strong numerical skills with the ability to perform basic calculations accurately
  • Sound administrative and organizational skills
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
  • Ability to perform well under pressure

Key Performance Areas

Cash Handling

  • Ensure all allocated cash, including floats and petty cash, balances with no shortages or overages
  • Correctly identify and scan goods on the POS system
  • Accurately record the correct payment methods received from customers
  • Maintain sufficient change at all times
  • Complete pick-ups accurately and within required limits
  • Perform accurate cash-ups at the end of each shift
  • Ensure daily takings are securely dropped into the drop safe or vault
  • Process all transactions related to other stores’ money, deliveries, and quotes correctly

Administration

  • Sign, compile, and file all documentation related to cashier duties

Ready for Business

  • Adhere to Ready for Business and Beyond My Control standards in line with the Cashbuild Way

Customer Service

  • Provide fast, friendly, and efficient service to all customers at checkout
  • Direct customers to the appropriate staff member for further assistance
  • Comply with the company dress code at all times

Safety (OHSA)

  • Ensure compliance with safety standards within the area of responsibility
  • Promote customer and staff safety at all times
  • Report any safety or operational discrepancies to the Store Manager

Security Awareness

  • Adhere to system password controls at the till point
  • Ensure safe handling and transport of cash to the cash office according to company procedures
