Job Description
The Cashier is responsible for the accurate processing of all Point of Sale (POS) transactions and related documentation to ensure a positive customer experience. The role ensures that all goods and stock are correctly scanned and paid for before leaving the store.
Requirements
- Grade 12 or a minimum of one year relevant work experience
- Ability to communicate in English and the dominant local language
- Strong numerical skills with the ability to perform basic calculations accurately
- Sound administrative and organizational skills
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
- Ability to perform well under pressure
Key Performance Areas
Cash Handling
- Ensure all allocated cash, including floats and petty cash, balances with no shortages or overages
- Correctly identify and scan goods on the POS system
- Accurately record the correct payment methods received from customers
- Maintain sufficient change at all times
- Complete pick-ups accurately and within required limits
- Perform accurate cash-ups at the end of each shift
- Ensure daily takings are securely dropped into the drop safe or vault
- Process all transactions related to other stores’ money, deliveries, and quotes correctly
Administration
- Sign, compile, and file all documentation related to cashier duties
Ready for Business
- Adhere to Ready for Business and Beyond My Control standards in line with the Cashbuild Way
Customer Service
- Provide fast, friendly, and efficient service to all customers at checkout
- Direct customers to the appropriate staff member for further assistance
- Comply with the company dress code at all times
Safety (OHSA)
- Ensure compliance with safety standards within the area of responsibility
- Promote customer and staff safety at all times
- Report any safety or operational discrepancies to the Store Manager
Security Awareness
- Adhere to system password controls at the till point
- Ensure safe handling and transport of cash to the cash office according to company procedures
