Job Purpose:

Key Knowledge Areas:

• Strong understanding of South Africa’s retail clothing market, including customer preferences and competitor landscape.
• Knowledge of the fashion retail cycle, critical path, and buying process.
• Awareness of relevant trends with a keen eye for styles suited to the boys’ wear market.
• In-depth knowledge of kids’ clothing, including styling, construction, and components.
• Experience in building boys’ clothing ranges.
• Ability to analyze and interpret numerical data to drive buying decisions.
• Enthusiasm for staying updated on the latest trends, colors, and styles in kids’ fashion.

Key Skills Required:

• Strong analytical abilities to interpret data effectively.
• A merchant mindset with a strong understanding of trading and product value.
• Presentation skills and proficiency in Microsoft applications.
• Ability to assess colors, CAD approvals, and strike-offs to develop desirable product offerings.
• Trend interpretation and range-building expertise for the boys’ fashion category.
• Excellent communication skills to collaborate within and outside the company.
• Relationship-building skills to work closely with suppliers.
• Effective negotiation skills for securing mutually beneficial agreements.

Experience and Qualifications:

• Experience: 3-5 years of proven retail buying experience, specifically in apparel.
• Education: Grade 12 Certificate/Matric; relevant qualification in Fashion Design, Textile Design, Clothing Production, Product Development, or Merchandising.
