Overview

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Butchery Manager to join our team. This role requires someone with a deep knowledge of meat cuts, inventory management, and customer service. The Butchery Manager will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations in the butchery, ensuring stock quality, managing promotions, and guiding staff and customers on product selection. You will also take on key responsibilities like stock taking, receiving deliveries, and working closely with the marketing team to promote fresh meat products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer Service & Promotions:
    Engage with customers, assist them with product selections, and run promotional campaigns to boost sales of fresh meat products.
  • Stock Management:
    Ensure stock is maintained at optimal levels. Receive deliveries of meat, ensuring it meets quality standards, and perform weekly perpetual stock takes to track inventory.
  • Meat Expertise:
    Possess an in-depth understanding of various meat cuts and provide expert guidance to both staff and customers on these cuts. Help display products in an attractive and effective way.
  • Inventory Control:
    Perform regular stock counts and manage ordering of supplies to ensure that the butchery is always well-stocked and that there is no wastage or shortage.
  • Staff Management:
    Lead the team, ensuring that they are properly trained in meat cutting, safety procedures, and customer service. Help motivate staff to maintain high standards of cleanliness, product presentation, and service.
  • Marketing & Promotions:
    Collaborate with the marketing team to advertise and promote fresh meat products, highlighting quality cuts, specials, and new offerings.
  • Health & Safety Compliance:
    Adhere to health and safety standards related to meat handling and storage, ensuring the butchery operates in a hygienic and safe manner at all times.
  • Operational Efficiency:
    Work autonomously, ensuring the butchery runs smoothly during busy periods, while maintaining high standards of quality and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Education:
    Matric (Grade 12)
    Note: A qualification in butchery or related fields will be beneficial.
  • Experience:
    At least 10 years of experience in retail and factory management, preferably in a butchery environment. Experience as a qualified blockman is required.
  • Location:
    Must be within a 25 km radius of the job location.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent customer service skills.
    • Strong understanding of meat cuts and butchery processes.
    • Ability to manage inventory and stock levels.
    • Leadership and team management skills.
    • Knowledge of health and safety regulations for meat handling.

Preferences (Not Mandatory, but a Plus)

  • South African candidates: Preference will be given to local applicants.
  • Own Transport: Candidates with their own transport will be given preference.
