Job Overview
We are looking for a dedicated Butchery General Assistant to join our team at Food Lovers Market! As a General Assistant in the butchery department, you will play an important role in ensuring our customers have an excellent shopping experience. You will assist with locating products, answering questions, maintaining stock levels, and keeping the butchery area clean and organized. Your positive attitude, strong work ethic, and customer service skills will contribute to the success of the store.
Key Responsibilities
As a Butchery General Assistant, your daily tasks will include:
- Assisting customers with locating butchered meat products and providing accurate product information
- Helping customers make selections and providing guidance on meat cuts and preparation methods
- Ensuring the butchery area is well-organized and products are neatly displayed
- Keeping the store shelves and fridges stocked and tidy
- Processing payments, handling cash and card transactions, and issuing receipts
- Handling stock deliveries, organizing products, and maintaining stock levels
- Restocking products that are sold out and ensuring availability of popular items
- Properly disposing of waste and ensuring cleanliness in the storeroom and work areas
- Assisting with stock takes and inventory management
- Adhering to safety, security, and hygiene policies and procedures
- Cleaning designated areas such as the storeroom, kitchen, and butcher counters
- Promoting sales and informing customers of current offers and promotions
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Matric (High School Diploma)
- Proficiency in English
- Clear criminal record
- Reside within 25km of the job location
- South African candidates only
Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following would be advantageous:
- Previous experience in a customer-facing role, particularly in a butchery environment
- Experience with stock takes and inventory management
- Familiarity with proper hygiene and safety procedures in a food handling environment
